CASE STATEMENT FOR ADVANCEMENT COUNCIL

BACKGROUND

The State Baptist Student Directors Association requested that several retired student workers develop a vehicle for securing funds to support and further student ministry. After investigation of several methods such as establishing a foundation or non-profit corporation, the most advisable approach was to establish a BAPTIST STUDENT UNION (BSU) ADVANCEMENT FUND with the Southern Baptist Foundation, a non-profit religious corporation. The Foundation was most supportive in providing legal assistance in every way. Consequently, the BSU ADVANCEMENT FUND was established.

BSU ADVANCEMENT FUND

Funds received become a perpetual endowment fund, the earnings of which will support BSU in areas of the United States and Canada where Southern Baptists need extra assistance in student minis- try. There are many campuses in the US and Canada which need the opportunity for student ministry. This FUND will help meet that need.

PURPOSE OF THE FUND

The primary purpose and intent of the FUND is to assist Baptist Student Ministries in the United States and Canada where such ministries are needed and financial resources are limited because of fewer and smaller Baptist churches in the area.

ASSIGNMENT OF FUNDS TO NEEDS

Proceeds from the fund will be administered by a COMMITTEE OF ADVISORS which shall be as follows: (1) The Director of the National Student Ministry Department, Baptist Sunday School

Board; (2) The person with the Student Ministries Assignment at the Home Mission Board; (3) Two representatives appointed by the State Baptist Student Directors Association; and (4) Two representatives appointed by the Association of Southern Baptist Campus Ministers. The COMMITTEE OF ADVISORS shall meet annually, elect a chairman and secretary, and provide counsel and advice to the Foundation with respect to the following: (1) applications and requests for financial assistance and grants; (2) status/report of Baptist Student Ministries; and (3) distributions from the FUND.

CONTRIBUTIONS

Voluntary contributions will be solicited from interested persons through cash, wills, properties, or other appropriate means.

PURPOSE OF THE ADVANCEMENT COUNCIL

The purpose of the COUNCIL is to promote the BSU ADVANCEMENT

FUND. This will be accomplished by continuing encouragement to potential givers and by special campaigns from time to time. The COUNCIL will consist of fifteen or more members including the six Executive Committee members. The Executive Committee is the

group active in formulating and beginning implementation of support for the BSU ADVANCEMENT FUND.
